When does your website need a revamp?

2 minutes read / Web design

Although the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” model may work well in some areas of life, the digital design world is not one of them. When it comes to websites and digital as a whole, things move quickly – and if you’re not prepared to dedicate time to staying up to date then you’re probably going to find that you’re falling behind your competitors.

Redesigning a website isn’t an everyday occurrence, and it shouldn’t be. After all – it’s a pretty large undertaking. But revamping it periodically can make a huge difference to your continued success online – and with more and more people engaging with brands online each and every day, now is not the time to let your digital presence take a nosedive.

What if I don’t want to?

There are many issues with avoiding a site revamp. A website is a snapshot of your brand, and neglecting to remember that could leave potential customers turned off by your outdated, old school digital face. And don’t even get us started on sites not being mobile friendly.

If your site isn’t mobile friendly, then this should be your top priority. Read anything about websites and you’ll see that mobile is the place to be if you want to succeed – and we all want to succeed, right?

Another flaw in avoiding a redesign is performance. Old, underachieving websites may not be performing properly – which could be costing your business money. Old websites often load slowly, which is an instant turn off for people; one survey found that 49{3eb5e81dc2dbd5243766a445dfd7203b99614852f30724c0fcd7c1e47478fab9} of consumers expect a site to load in two seconds or less, so if yours doesn’t, people aren’t going to stick around.

Ok, so when?

Well, without taking the politician angle, there isn’t a definitive answer to that question. There are loads of different things that can impact how often you should redesign your website, which means there isn’t a strict formula or timeline that you need to stick to. To put it simply, it depends.

It depends on the industry you’re in. It depends on what you want your website to do. It depends on your goals and your purpose as a business. And it depends on how important your website is to your success. All of these can affect how often you should give your site a facelift; a two year old e-commerce site may be more in need of a revamp than a 5 year old digital portfolio.

To help you determine when is right for you, there are few questions you can ask yourself.

  • Is your site mobile friendly? (if the answer to this is no, then 1. What are you doing?! And 2. Redesign your site ASAP)
  • Does your website see successful performance?
  • Does it fit your brand and look modern?
  • Are you proud of it?

If the answer to any of these is no, then you should probably start thinking about giving your website a facelift. At Web Monkey Studios, we offer bespoke and template web design services that are tailored made to be jaw-droppingly irresistible to your customers – and to search engines. Sound too good to be true?
