As a small, medium or large business, having a website is a huge step for your presence online. Perhaps most importantly, it allows the right people to find you, your brand, products and services. However, many businesses fail to capture the attention of their most valued customers, meaning you miss out on potential leads and conversions.
It is important that you continuously update your website with new content, products, services and updates about your brand to stay in the spotlight, and keep the interest of visitors.
However, it can be hard to gauge where your website traffic is coming from and if you have an edge over your competitors. There are a number of tools out there that can help you see how you rank in terms of position and traffic visits against your competition. “What are those magical tools?!” we hear you ask – well, we’re here to tell you.
Google Analytics
One such tool that can help you view your own traffic statistics is Google Analytics.
Google Analytics is a free service by Google that allows you to monitor all visitor activity on your website, including unique visitors, bounce rate, website Traffic Sources and much more! This allows you to see where website traffic is coming from, how many visitors are coming to your website, where they are going once on the site, and through which search engines, social media platforms and keywords they used to find your website. Analytics is a powerful tool and is very user-friendly.
Your absolute unique visitors allows you to see how many individuals have landed on your site, measured by capturing the visitor’s IP address. If you have 2,000 visits and 1,500 recorded unique visitors, there were 1,500 different people who visited your website, with a total of 2,000 times. Those who re-visit your website again at a later date are recorded as returning visitors.
SEMrush
SEMrush is a web application that allows you to analyse massive amounts of SEO data related to your website. What’s very useful about SEMrush is that it also allows you to gain an insight into your competitors, seeing visitors data from your and their domains. SEMrush boasts a database of over 106 million keywords, over 46 million domains, allowing you to track a variety of rank and traffic based metrics.
Does your website generate leads?
Fundamentally, these tools will give you an insight into how many people are finding your website, allowing you to focus your marketing efforts on areas that generate the most interest – e.g social media marketing or paid search.
As to the question of whether enough people are visiting your website – first, identify where people are coming from and if that traffic is converting into leads for your business. If the answer is no, consider expanding your marketing efforts to drive conversions in your current strong areas, and develop your weaknesses to help them bring you more success.
